Placements in India |
 |
|
Placement is an important factor in a student’s academic career today. Most students prefer to take admission in colleges or universities that are equipped with a placement cell that will ensure a job at the end of the course.
Criteria for Campus Placements
The criterion for campus placements in colleges and universities differs from one department to another. However there are certain basic requirements that a student must have
- Fulfillment of all education qualifications as listed by the company
- Submission of mark sheets of high school and college / university examinations
- Proof of identity such as a passport or a residential permit in case of international students
- Qualifying marks if any placement test is organized by the companies
- Submission of a properly structured resume and certificates supporting the student’s extracurricular activities
- Letters of recommendation from the authorities of institutes attended is an added advantage
- The student must have a thorough knowledge about the objectives and working of the company he / she is appearing for
- Thorough knowledge of English. Knowledge of the regional language is an added advantage.
How Campus Interviews are organized by Colleges
For arrangement of campus interviews for final year students, a college must have:
- Admission Committee / Community
- A team of admission advisors to help the students choose the best career
- A group of academicians and professionals who will prepare the students to face personal interviews in the corporate sector
- Teachers who will provide advice on what to prepare and how to prepare for a placement test
- The campus interviews are organized after the end of a semester or year. Only final year / semester candidates can appear for a campus interview.
Why do Companies Prefer Recruiting Students Directly from Colleges
A general trend that is prevalent in India and abroad is that most companies prefer on campus rather than off campus placement programs. The reasons cited for this phenomenon are:
- It is said that the quality of students appearing for on campus interviews is better than those appearing for off campus interviews.
- When companies visit a particular college for campus placements, they are already aware about the marks and the general performance of the students from the admission committee of the college. This makes their task easier and therefore they always prefer on campus recruitment.
- The mass recruiters of the world, like TCS, IBM and Infosys arrange off campus recruitment drives only when the number of students appointed through on campus recruitments are not enough in number. The smaller companies therefore follow in their footsteps.
